HOW TO AVOID COMMON FRESHMAN MISTAKES - scholarships-malaysia.blogspot.com

HOW TO AVOID COMMON FRESHMAN MISTAKES
Starting college or university for the first time can be extremely stressful for many students, and incoming freshmen often have many questions and worries about academic and social life on campus. These uncertainties often seem even more intimidating to international students, who must not only deal with new academic challenges but must also adjust to a new cultural environment.
Unigo, an online resource guide for prospective undergraduate students, addresses some of these general concerns and offers helpful tips from experts in the field. Some of the topics covered include how to effectively manage your free time, what to do to ensure you meet deadlines, and how to communicate with your professors.

THE COMMON APPLICATION SETS 500-WORD

THE COMMON APPLICATION SETS 500-WORD LIMIT ON MAIN ESSAY
Essays are an important part of the college admissions process because they provide an opportunity for students to showcase their personality and their spirit to the admissions committee. However, for this very reason writing an essay is often one of the most challenging part of an application; students must memorably express themselves in a small amount of space.
The essay component of the Common Application, an undergraduate admissions application that is accepted by 415 colleges and universities across the US, has been unlimited in length for the past four years. However, Common App recently announced its decision to place a limit of 500 words on its main essay. This change means that students will be forced to be more concise when writing their essays and must clearly communicate their opinions, ideas, and writing skills within the space of 500 words. Students will still have a choice of six different essay prompts for the essay.

1MDB offers 500 scholarships KUALA LUMPUR - scholarships-malaysia.blogspot.com

1MDB offers 500 scholarships KUALA LUMPUR: 1Malaysia Development Berhad is to offer 500 scholarships to 8A+ scorers in the SPM examination this year to study in public and private academic institutions in the country.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz said that 300 of the scholarships would be for Bumiputras.
Priority would be given to 8A+ achievers who failed to get a Public Service Department scholarship, he told reporters after chairing a 1MDB scholarship meeting of Barisan Nasional representatives at Parliament House.

However, he said, conditions would be relaxed for Bumiputra applicants from Sabah and Sarawak, with consideration given to 6A+ and 5A+ scorers, taking into account the income of their parents and their schooling area.
“For them alone have we agreed to relax academic conditions. Bumiputras in the peninsula have to comply with pre-conditions, on academic achievements and parents’ income,” Mohamed Nazri said.
Mohamed Nazri said that scholarship holders at public academic institutions would receive RM7,500 a year for critical and non-critical courses.
Those at private academic institutions would receive RM15,000 a year for critical courses, and RM7,500 a year for non-critical courses, he said.
Mohamed Nazri also said the government was taking action against 145 PSD scholarship holders who failed to return to Malaysia to serve from 2000 until May 31 this year.
Action had been taken against 195 other cases, he said.
He said that 195 cases had been settled — the scholarship holders had returned home to serve or had started to pay back or had paid in full what they owed.
Mohamed Nazri said that most of the scholarship holders who defaulted were medical and engineering students pursuing courses in the United Kingdom, Ireland and the United States.
Of the 145 defaulting scholars now, 97 are in medicine and 26 in engineering, he said.
“It looks like we have to review the PSD financing policy to take into consideration this kind of thing,” he said. — BERNAMA

PTPTN: How to close SSPN account? – scholarships-malaysia.blogspot.com

PTPTN: How to close SSPN account? – bintangjayareload.com
The National Education Savings Scheme (Skim Simpanan Pendidikan Nasional, SSPN) was designed especially by the National Higher Education Fund Corporation to enable guardians or parents to save for the purpose of the higher education of their children. Previously, it was compulsory to open an SSPN account to apply for Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN) study loan. This rule has been abolished since two years ago.
But for those who have opened and deposited money into the SSPN account, how would one close the SSPN account and get back the money deposited? Personally speaking, the whole process is very troublesome and frustrating and might even take up to a few months to close it and get back the money especially if you apply for the matching grant (Tuntutan Geran Sepadan).
The documents that you need to prepare to close your SSPN account:
  • SSPN account closing form
  • Copy of depositor’s MyKad (verified by official)
  • Copy of SSPN card (verified by official)
Submit your form and documents to PTPTN service counter at One Stop Center, KL Sentral or any PTPTN agents below:
  • Bank Simpanan Nasional
  • CIMB Bank Berhad
  • Agro Bank
  • Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad
  • Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad
  • Maybank
Wait and follow up by calling to PTPTN (PTPTN Hotline: 03 2080 4455). This is the most frustrating part as you have no way to track the progress of the account closure. Wish you all the best!
